All Things Asbestos

Everyone wants their home to be a safe environment void of complications and potentially harmful toxins. While asbestos might feel like a thing of the past, it certainly isn’t. It’s important to be proactive and on the lookout for what might be hiding in your home - especially if your space was built in or before 2003. Keep reading to learn about asbestos, how to spot it, and how QwikResponse can help in the event your home has it.

A Hazardous History

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral, commonly used in construction in the early 1900s. What seemed like a harmless fiber at first began showing signs of lung cancer and mesothelioma when inhaled. It was banned in 2003, but studies show that it still has the potential to wreak havoc in modern construction renovations and demolitions.

Where & How to Test

Common places to find asbestos include popcorn ceilings, vinyl flooring, carpeting, roofing shingles, and more. If your home includes these features and/or was built before the early 1980s, it might be a good idea to have your home tested. Asbestos particles are only dangerous if they become airborne, but if you have plans to remodel or begin to notice damage to piping, siding, or drywall, you should hire a service to come run an asbestos test.

NOTE: QwikResponse has been running asbestos tests for the last 30 years, so we’re no stranger to the game. We start with an in-person inspection where we determine the extent of the project and discuss what cleanup, remediation, and restoration are necessary.
